“Get ready, the Resilient Hour is back and we’re starting off strong with our first guest, Shaikh Aarij Anwer!

Join us at 6:30 pm on all our social media platforms for our flagship online program this Ramadan.

Let’s kick off the month with inspiration and resilience.”

Unlike last night,

Tonight we had partly cloudy sky above the horizon in Brampton, so there was a reasonable chance to see the moon.

At first I could not see the crescent, but it did reveal itself for a good few minutes before again disappearing behind clouds.

Moon was higher in the sky than where I was expecting to find it.

Thickness of the new crescent also surprised me; if I had to guess, I might say the thickness looks a day old.

The horns were at 3 o’clock and 8 o’clock.

Ramadan Mubarak to all.

AsalamAlayKum everyone,

So tonight we’re seeing a re-run of Last Ramadan 1444/2023 and a re-re-run of Ramadan 1443/2022‘s Moonsighting attempts.

For the third Lunar year in a row,

We have cloudy sky on the potential first night of Ramadan.

Because of the complete cloud cover this evening there was zero chance of seeing the new moon.

Nevertheless,

After praying Maghrib I went out to fulfill the Sunnah of Searching for the new crescent.

All I found was the cloudy sky.

I could not and did not see the new crescent moon.

This is a negative moonsighting report from Brampton, Ontario, Canada on Sunday evening, March 10 2024.

Ramadan 1445/2024 Mubarak to all!

Most Sundays after Dhuhr Prayer at Bramalea Islamic Cultural Centre in Brampton, Ontario,

BICC provides Islamic Education sessions, usually about an hour in length with plenty of time for Questions afterwards.

I understood that Shaikh Omar Subedar would be today’s teacher providing the first in a series of Ramadan themed Question and Answer sessions.

My intention was to attend the Q&A, then afterwards, privately ask him to clarify and correct my own understanding of the local Toronto area history of our various Moonsighting efforts.

But that’s not what happened.

SubhanAllah, Shaikh Omar Subedar opened his talk with a few words about the local history of Moonsighting efforts in Toronto.

Then he kept going and going until all the private questions I had brought with me in my heart and mind, ended up being answered.

So, of course I immediately realized it was a Gift from God-Alone, a minor miracle answered by Allah (Glorified and Praised be He).

Once the Q&A session formally wrapped up, I spoke with Shaikh Subedar.

I shared with him how everything in his talk was exactly answering the historical questions I had intended to ask him.

Shaikh Omar then told me originally he had no intention of talking about Moonsighting today but somehow he ended up doing so.

( I took down written notes, and inshAllah I’ll update this blog post once I review my scribblings to transcribe them into a brief timeline of highlights )

Before today’s Qhutbah began,

City of Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown was invited to address the Bramalea Islamic Community Centre Congregation who had gathered for Jumah Prayers.

He and a number of City Councillors will be fasting on Tuesday March 26 2024, which is the day the City of Brampton is hosting their annual Public Iftar at Brampton City Hall, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Mayor Brown informed us the Official City of Brampton Eid Al Fitr Celebration, which last year was held in Gage Park in Downtown Brampton, will this year take place in Chinguacousy Park in Bramalea, which incidentally is located one block north west of The BICC.

City of Brampton’s Eid Celebration in Chinguacousy Park will be on Saturday April 27 2024 between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

It’s been a while since we last attended Salat Al Jumah at Sayeda Khadija Centre in Mississauga.

As Ramadan 2024 begins in about three weeks, my brother Amir decided we should go pray at S.K. Centre, like we often do during Ramadan.

Even with The Holy Month of Ramadan so close, and already a week into the month of Shaban, I still hadn’t gotten that Ramadan Feeling

…As we arrived, parked in the overflow parking closer to the Hurontario side, then began walking towards the west entrance, that Ramadan Feeling begin to stir within me, in ernest.

Alhumdulillah.

Near the entrance way, there is usually a small table with Sadaqa and Masjid Donation boxes.

Today I also noticed this see-through plastic box filled with Green Squares of felt fabric with golden safety pins.

These are of course from the Green Square Campaign to commemorate the victims of the shooting at the Grand Mosque of Quebec on January 29 2017.

January 29th each year is officially recognized as National Day of Remembrance of the Québec City Mosque Attack and Action against Islamophobia.

My brother Amir and I entered the main prayer hall early enough to easily choose from prayer spots in the third line from the front wall.

This third line becomes the second line behind where the Imam would be leading the Friday Prayer after delivering the Friday Sermon.

On very busy prayer days, the usually empty very front row to the left of the Imam allows for a small number of additional worshippers.

Above the Prayer Niche, or Mihrab, where the Imam leads the prayer, hangs this chandelier.

Because this chandelier is not necessarily turned on during every prayer, its brightness immediately captured my visual attention and imagination as I sat down in my prayer spot in the third row.

The floral blue of the Turkish Tiles is transformed.

Luminescent.

I quickly snapped this single image with my pocket-sized Nikon Coolpix which I often carry with me, then put the camera away, so not to disturb nor distract nearby worshippers.

Awaiting Adhan Al Jumah, while still appreciating the Lit Chandelier, Day 5 of Ramadan 2011 came to mind.

2011 was the inaugural year of this 30 Masjids in 30 Days of Ramadan project.

On Day 5, I wrote about the Islamic Design of the Water Fountain found in the basement of the TARIC Islamic Centre located in North York.

Alas, the TARIC Fountain wasn’t turned on, and perhaps still hasn’t in the decade plus change since I first blogged about it.

Today, The Chandelier above the Sayeda Khadija Centre Mihrab was turned on.

Alhumdulillah.

Adhan Al Jumah.

The Call to Friday Congregational Prayer, before the Friday Sermon.

Imam Abu Noman Tarek was today’s Khateeb.

Sayeda Khadija Centre Family Day Tea Party ~ Monday Feb 19 2024

InshAllah,

I’ll make the effort to attend in person to document, record, photograph, this Historic Plaque Unveiling at London Muslim Mosque on Wednesday October 11 2023.

Please attend if you can!

“In this Friday Jumu’ah of September 29 2023 at International Seerah Exhibition,

“Our Imam Dr. Hamid Slimi speaks in his Khutbah about the topic of Seerah and Sunnah of the Prophet (S).

“He explains the nature of connection Muslims have with the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and how it is critical for the believer to keep that bond strong.”

The Day of Arafat – 9th Day of Dhul-Hijjah 1444 – Tuesday June 27 2023

Iftar – Breaking Fast with Majhūl Dates..!

Maghrib Sunset Time arrives in Toronto Metropolitan Area

On The Day of Arafah,

9th of Dhul Hijjah 1444,

And I can finally bite into my THIRD Majhūl Date of the day!

But I was Fasting,

So how can this be my “Third” Majhūl Date?

Because this morning before Fajr,

I already had not One,

but TWO Majhūl Dates

For Sahoor.

I intended on only having ONE,

But these are more addictive than potato chips,

And I had to have TWO,

I could not stop at One.

And then…

Just like that it was Fajr time,

and I couldn’t have Three Majhūl Dates for Sahoor even if I wanted to,

And I wanted to,

I simply had to wait for Sunset to arrive on one of the longest days of the year in the northern hemisphere at this latitude.

So,

The entire Day of Arafah,

I kept looking forward to breaking my Fast with another Majhūl Date.

As ~9:05 p.m. EDT approached,

I dialled up MeemTV’s IPTV channel as they usually livestream Adhan Al Maghrib according to Toronto Local Time,

Theirs is the Adhan you hear in the background of this video.

Alhumdulillah,

Majhūl Date with coconut shavings and tasty filling with a glass of Rooh Afzah made with milk was my Iftar for and on this Day of Arafah 1444 Fast.

Majhūl Dates:

“Love at First Bite,”

No kidding,

Alhumdulillah.
