Winnipeg (January 30, 2017).

Muslims in Manitoba are shocked and saddened by the mosque shooting which took place in Quebec City last night. According to media reports, gunmen opened fire at the Quebec Islamic Cultural Centre in Quebec City during evening prayers and killed at least 6 worshippers and injured many.

Special prayers for the deceased will be held in the Manitoba Grand Mosque today Monday January 30, 2017 at 8:00 PM. The prayers are open to all.

“We respond to this tragedy with prayers for the victims and for Quebec City and for Canada to remain a safe haven for people of all faiths and background”, said Osaed Khan, president of the Manitoba Islamic Association. “Places of worship should be peaceful refuge for all, regardless of religion”, Khan added.

“We do not want to jump to conclusions until all the facts are known, but having this happen at this time leaves us on edge”, said Khan.”
