Vancouver Muslim Community Centre usually hosts Friday Jumah Prayers in the Auditorium of the Central Branch of the Vancouver Public Library.

The Auditorium wasn’t available this week, so VMCC moved Jumah across the street and held it outdoors.

Nice Change. Nice Qhutbah (Sermon) too.

انا لله وانا اليه راجعون

~To Allah we belong, and unto Him is our return~

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dear brother, Imam Raid Miqdadi, who passed away this morning in Hamilton.

Imam Raid was the Imam for Umar Masjid until his health no longer allowed him to serve our community.

Imam Raid was the son-in-law of Shaykh Arafat Elashi and the uncle of Sister Danah Elsayed (Imam Hosam’s wife).

Salatul Janaza will be held today, Thursday, June 9, 2016 after Dhuhr prayers (1:35 pm) at the Hamilton Mountain Mosque.

May Allah (SWT) grant our dear brother a place in Jannat-ul-Firdous and give his family strength and patience to get through this difficult time. ~Ameen~

Mountain Mosque Address:
1545 Stone Church Road East
Hamilton, ON L8W 3P8

30 Masjids visited Hamilton, Ontario during Ramadan 2013.

If you live in the Greater Golden Horseshoe area of Southern Ontario and are able to, please attend this Janaza / Funeral Prayer in Hamilton.

I’m currently in Halifax, Nova Scotia, otherwise I’d make an effort to attend myself.

HiMY SYeD

Shaikh Abdool Hamid delivers Islamic Reminders on Mondays and Wednesdays in Masjid Toronto after the Dhuhr / Mid-Day Prayer.

Today’s Reminder is in anticipation of Ramadan 2016 beginning in a few days: The Specialness of Fasting in Ramadan .

Doors Open Toronto 2016 - DOT16

Doors Open Toronto is always the Last Weekend in May.

This year, DOT16, offers four very different Islamic or Muslim related locations who are opening their doors welcoming in The General Public:

The Dawah Centre & Jerrahi Canada, also opened their doors for DOT14:

Logistically, if you’re up for visiting all four locations, it makes sense to perhaps do it over two days.

014 - Peace and Solidarity March in Flemingdon Park, Grenoble Public School, North York - 2015-11-20

Jane’s Walk 2016 Festival Weekend is Friday, Saturday, Sunday: May 5, 6, 7.

Among the 200 walks listed so far, one might be of particular interest to Toronto area readers of 30Masjids :

Muslim Women and Public Safety

This new walk is inspired by the same November 2015 events which inspired me to lead The History of Muslims in Toronto Jane’s Walk, a month later in December 2015.

About this walk in their own words:

“Last fall Torontonians were jolted when it was reported that a Muslim woman was the viciously attacked on her way to pick up her children from school.

Although severe, this incident sparked conversations pertaining to the numerous ways Muslim women experience a lack of safety in public spaces.

Through personal stories and placemaking insights, this walk will uncover the direct and nuanced attacks that Muslim face when navigating their local communities, academic institutions, the legal system and city-building processes.

This participatory walk will invite everyone to consider the ways we can co-create a greater sense of belonging and safety for all women in public spaces.”

Walk Leaders comprise a cross-cultural team of five Women with distinct backgrounds.

muslim women and public safety - jane's walk

If I wasn’t leading my own separate un-related Jane’s Walk elsewhere in the city at that exact time, I’d certainly attend this one.

Their 2 hour Jane’s Walk begins in Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto City Hall in front of the burger joint on Saturday May 7 2016 at 1 p.m.
