Faith Settings
Places of worship are important community destinations where people gather and seek guidance and advice on many matters, including those related to overall wellbeing and health. HCI is pleased to partner with many faith settings who are representative of our diverse community, and who all share a common objective of enabling health and wellbeing for their congregants and community.HCI’s faith setting initiatives are:

Comments Off on 30 MORE | Day 6 – Five Pillars Farm – Muslim Cemetery – 1761 Laughlin Road – Livermore, California — By Amir Syed
“Rattlesnake warning at the cemetery gate”
“The gate”
Dua for Dead
Assalaamu ‘alaykum ‘ahlad-diyaari, minal-mu’mineena walmuslimeena, wa ‘innaa ‘in shaa’ Allaahu bikum laahiqoona [wa yarhamullaahul-mustaqdimeena minnaa walmusta’khireena] ‘as’alullaaha lanaa wa lakumul- ‘aafiyata.
Peace be upon you, people of this abode, from among the believers and those who are Muslims, and we, by the Will of Allah, shall be joining you. [May Allah have mercy on the first of us and the last of us] I ask Allah to grant us and you strength.
“Nana Aba’s grave I hope”
“Mamoo’s”
“I literally scan almost every grave there… I think there was a reason I was meant to do that..”
My brother Amir is in the San Francisco Bay Area on Business.
The first thing he did upon landing at SFO then checking into his hotel was to visit the Five Pillars Farm Muslim Cemetery in Livermore, California.
This is where our Maternal Grandmother; our Maternal Grandfather, our Nana Aba; our Maternal Uncle, our “Mamoo”; our other Maternal Uncle, who linguistically would correctly be our “Qhaloo”, are all buried.
Our Mamoo, Syed Mashhoodul Hassan, died February 26 2019.
My Maternal uncle,
In San Francisco Bay Area,
Syed Mashood ul Hassan,
passed away a short while ago, within the past hour…
I am sad. My Mom is heartbroken.
Inna Ilay hay wa inna ilay hay rajaoon.

Comments Off on 30 MORE | “When I was there, a man took off his shoes, walked in, and began to quietly pray.” – Paradise Has Many Gates – Vanier Park – Vancouver – Unceded Coast Salish Territory
The person praying in the Mihrab, The Prayer Niche pointing towards Makkah, is…
Me !
I had fasted the first of my intended six additional optional fasts after Ramadan, during the month of Shawwal, and this was my Maghrib, my post-sunset prayer.
“PARADISE HAS MANY GATES”
Saudi artist Ajlan Gharem’s installation for the Vancouver Biennale.
When I was there, a man took off his shoes, walked in, and began to quietly pray.
Its use and materials underscore issues of exclusion and surveillance.
