New Crescent Moon of Shawwal 1441:
“The Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) is on May 22, 2020 (Friday) at 17:38 UT.
On that day,
the moon can not be seen any where in the world.
On May 23,
it may be seen in Africa and Canada with difficulty,
and in USA and South America easily.
Take your important part in this blessed effort. If we all try to sight the moon in our respective vicinities this will automatically negate false reports. Since the Eid al Fitr moon sighting criteria is different from Ramadan, the Shariah requires shahadah, NOT mere Khabr (news)

Something deeply comforting about the fact that, despite a global pandemic and the knowledge no one can celebrate properly, Toronto Muslims are still waging a moon war.
My family’s got one more fast to go, but for those celebrating tomorrow, Eid Mubarak! 🌙

After a long and thorough verification by the Hilal Council of Canada we are delighted to declare that Eid-ul-Fitr will be insha Allah on Sunday and completing 30 days for this blessed month of Ramadan.
— HilalCouncilofCanada (@hilal_council) May 23, 2020
The council adopts global sighting and there were no satisfying and valid sightings around the world that meet our criteria. The new moon was born only at 1:38 pm (ET) on Friday May 22 which makes it impossible to be see east of the Americas
— HilalCouncilofCanada (@hilal_council) May 23, 2020
unless a sighting was of the waning moon of Ramadan (al-Urjoon al-Qadeem). The waning Moon is sometimes faintly visible because the Earth also reflects sunlight as a dull glow onto the Moon. This phenomenon is called earthshine or Da Vinci glow, & is most noticeable in April &May
— HilalCouncilofCanada (@hilal_council) May 23, 2020
follow local sighting, thus will be celebrating ‘Eīd on either Sunday or Monday. Regardless of when one chooses to celebrate ‘Eīd, we must respect and love each other.”
