“***LIVE***
Resilient Hour | from the Islamic Institute of Toronto
The hour before the breaking of the fast is perhaps the most difficult;
yet it signifies the strong will of the believer to take the hardship of the day to its conclusion and to take comfort in the knowledge that we will accomplish yet another day of worship.”
Because of being in the first Drive-In Iftar cohort,
A small stage was still being set up in front.
Area Politicians would be arriving & I imagine they’d stand on it to be visible to people inside their vehicles.
What is encouraging to witness,
Is how younger people have been entrusted with logistics decision making & process re-invention.
This Ramadan 2021 began with 15% Indoor Capacity allowed for Houses of Worship,
But was reduced to only 10 people allowed indoors during Week 2 of Ramadan 2021.
ISNA Canada worked with the rules as they were and transformed the Drive-Thru Iftar
Into a “Drive-In” outdoors stay-in-car Iftar Pickup that met Provincial Rules for Drive-By services for Houses of Worship.
Some Masjids and Organizations experience stasis due to “Founders Syndrome”,
When well meaning “Uncles” do not retire to make space for following generations of stewardship.
Once up a time that might have been ISNA Canada.
Today,
During a Pandemic,
Drive-Thru, and then Drive-In Iftars,
Confirm Islamic Centre of Canada is in good hands.
Young Hands.
Eid Mubarak Everybody !
As of tonight @ISNA_Canada will have served 25,598 Iftar meals through their drive-in program! This successful and safe initiative would not have been possible without generous donors and the dedicated organizers and volunteers. pic.twitter.com/vsYLT07ozg
In these final nights of Ramadan, I joined @ISNA_Canada’s drive-in Iftar! Although we couldn’t be together in person for Iftar this month, the centre still found a fun way to come together and celebrate community.#RamadanMubarak! pic.twitter.com/M16PZhuCIE
Our final drive in iftar for Ramadan this year is today! We will be distributing the largest number of meals yet thanks to all our sponsors! pic.twitter.com/z4L8hG7mEF

The other brilliant thing: throughput is incredible. Here's how they do it: 2 lines. Line 1 is walk-ins. Line 2 is pre-booked, which helped keep the throughput high during the afternoon lull when line 1 was low—a chronic problem for pop-ups. pic.twitter.com/E9Znjk5bp8
Not novel concept. Airlines have been doing it forever…it's called a standby list. I've seen pop ups panic in the afternoon when the line dies and they start contacting @VaxHuntersCan and opening it up to everybody. Get a pre-booked list in place before you stage a pop up.
We are grateful to our staff & community ambassadors for their hard work in pre-registering local residents through door knocking using IPads provided by @MGHToronto Also would like to thank all front line health workers for their commendable service & all our partners. Salute! https://t.co/i4re7kfxAD

Yesterday felt different in #Flemingdon and #Thorncliffe. 4,050 people vaccinated late into the night which helped those observing Ramadan. We are also hearing more folks report they already got their first vaccine and they are so happy! Congrats to all. https://t.co/KokijFCd4k

Comments Off on Night 27 – LIVESTREAM – Laylatul Qadr – Taraweeh Prayer – Annual special Program for the Night of the 27th – Sayeda Khadija Centre – Mississauga
“Salam & Ramadan Kareem!
Welcome to the Live Broadcast of Isha Salat & Taraweeh Prayers from Sayeda Khadija Centre.
following the one they did last year during Ramadan 2020.
We arrived shortly before the official 7 p.m. start time,
And they were ready to receive us.
They had at least three Iftar Table Stations set up with sets of volunteers at each one.
This would space out and speed up with the efficient Iftar Pickups in a tightly spaced parking lot.
Being among the first arrivals,
We experienced what has become a theme during our Drive-Thru Iftar masjid visits this year,
Volunteers weren’t as ready to immediately accept cash donations as they were with handing the Iftar Pickups.
That’s okay.
Everyone arriving and donating after us would benefit from whatever readiness was made up on the fly because of our Sadaqah, Masjid, and Zakat donations.
The Iftar from Masjid Khalid Bin Al-Walid was incredible !
They made efforts to include everything you’d want in an Iftar Dinner.
It was GENEROUS,
Alhumdulillah.
Each serving included small items for dessert.
They insisted on water bottles for each of us in the car.
Even plastic utensils were in the bag.
The dinners were different.
We got macaroni and cheese with BBQ chicken wings versions ,

Ever since I was a child, my mom always stressed about the importance of mosque in our life as a muslim. No wonder it becomes my highlight when I had my mini-Indochina trip to Malaysia-Vietnam-Cambodia last April-May.This is the first mosque that I visited, and it is in Malacca, Malaysia. Masjid Selat Melaka (the Malay […]
Yesterday I climbed the 99 m high minaret of Masjid Al-Akbar (Masjid Agung) Surabaya. It represents 99 names of Allah, Asmaul Husna. To me 99 names of Allah are a reminder of best qualities that lies in ourselves, that if we can use it properly, it will elevate us to see life in a different perspective. […]
Spent the first day of Ramadan fasting in Moscow for 19 hours. What an experience! It was tough but the cold breeze helps a lot :D Lucky for me to be able to join iftar and pray at a Mushalla in Indonesian Embassy in Moscow. +OL
Tatarstan Mosque in Moscow, Russia. I prayed Dhuha at the women section and because nobody’s there, we tiptoed to take picture of the main prayer room. When we about to go out, we can’t. Because apparently we’re locked from the outside. After calling out people from the Masjid’s window, finally the Imam open the Masjid’s […]
Beautiful Nur Mubarak Mosque in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Unfortunately we had to pray at Imam’s office, because women section is renovated and I certainly can’t say to my local Almaty Muslimah friends to pray behind men at the main hall. +OL
One of my favourite spaces in the entire city is the pool hall in Fordsburg. It’s located down an obscure, red passage next to the Milky Lane that’s been a feature of Fordsburg Square for as long as I can remember. Climbing the red staircase you cannot be prepared for the sight that greets you, […]
A spontaneous decision to road trip to Hartebeespoort dam resulted in coming across this beautiful prayer room. In the basement of a house that overlooks the dam is this room with an adjoining room for ladies. The one end of the room opens up to a peaceful garden. Set up specifically for tourists coming through […]
