1168 Bloor Street West, Toronto
Saturday December 5 2015, 7 – 9 pm
Recently, there has been a spike in hate crimes targeting Muslims, especially Muslim women, right here on the streets and subway of Toronto. Muslims have been distressed by this. But Muslims are also thankful for the heart-warming support of many allies who have stood up against such hate.
We, neighbours and community leaders, are coming together to stand in solidarity, speak out against division, and reaffirm our commitment to building a united, inclusive, hate-free community. We encourage you to join us!
There will be short statements by:
- Joe Abbey-Colborne, Director of Faith in the City, an interfaith anti-poverty initiative
- Rabbi Michael Satz of Holy Blossom Temple
- Imam Shabir Ally of the Islamic Information & Dawah Centre
- MP Julie Dzerowicz
- Councillor Ana Bailao
- & other community leaders
The evening will begin with the Muslim evening prayer at 7 p.m. You are welcome to observe or join the prayer. If you wish to skip the prayer, join us at 7:15, or whenever you can.
We will be signing this Statement of Unity: http://you.leadnow.ca/petitions/statement-of-unity. We encourage you to get a head start by signing it online.
This event is organized by Faith in the City and the Islamic Information & Dawah Centre International.
